CNC Notes from Digital Intuition

imageOver the weekend, I tried getting my mill to start up.  No joy.  Finally, I busted out the multimeter and schematics to find the source of the problem.  I checked the E-Stop switch, the power in and out, the switches.  Still no clues.  The green power light was lit on the front of the machine, which led me to believe that the fuse was in working order.  Finally, finding no AC voltage inside the machine, I double checked the fuse.  It was fine.  When I screwed it back in, though, I screwed it farther in than I had when I last checked it.

Frustration While building a tooling plate and some hold-downs for my MaxNC mill, I found myself irritated with the small mill’s lack of weight and rigidity.  It was finally able to make the cuts, but it was immediately clear that my small aluminum mill would be unable to anything but occasional cuts in aluminum.

The fix?  A Grizzly X3.  Since I don’t know how to use a mill, I decided that this would need to have a CNC conversion done on it.  This blog will detail the progress of the mill, and it’s conversion.
